Disasters happen all around the world, York England suffers from the river Foss and Ouse bursting
their banks 2 or 3 times a year..low floods often.-- The Romans founded York, back
them there was a lot of bogs and wetlands,,so they didn.t bother about water..-- When
i was a lot younger floods were bad. In the years since, millions of pounds has
been spent on flood precautions. River water from the rivers Nidd, Ure, and Swale flow
into the Ouse. So when it rains a lot on the Pennine Hills the water heads through York. In 2015 ,600 properties flooded on Boxing Day 26th Dec.. - Severe floods also.in 1947, 1978, 1982 2000. The City Council and Environment Agency. have
a good flood warning system. == The highest flood level recorded was 5.40m in 2000, about 17 ft 9 inches. 1n 2015 5 m [ 16 ft 5 inches ] --
York city centre is generally flat, but the sides of the river rise up a slight slope,
so it is really only riverside properties that suffer. York is never closed as TV News sometimes
